Adding Media to Your Site

I thought I was clever when I added a photo slide to my speaking site by using slide.com (http://www.sharynabbott.com/gallery.html). Then I learned how to put a Capture Box  on my site (look at ezine) and I was truly excited. Then if you remember I discovered how to embed video on my site by loading the Flip Videos to MySpace.

Interviewing Authors

Another great method of increasing your database is to interview other authors. I have been so pleasantly surprised to find that only once have I been turned down by a fellow author to do an interview. Most often authors are flattered that you would ask.

Capture Page

Everyone knows that your database is worth gold! The infamous “they” say when you have 10,000 people in your database; you’ll end up with 10% buying a product from you every month. So, if the product is $10, you earn $10,000 a month from the 1,000 people in your database.

Hiring a Virtual Assistant

Have you ever ended a week with more time than things to do? Not me! How I wish I was that capable. And the more successful I am, the less time I have to do all the extra tasks! So, what do we do? Of course, hire a virtual assistant.

elance

Have you ever felt like you can’t get it all done? Have you ever wished for an extra day in the week? It’s the nature of the entrepreneur and especially for authors. You’ve more likely discovered by now that there is no end in sight. Once you’ve accomplished one phase, the next is upon you and there is no end in sight.

SEM - Search Engine Marketing

Getting exposure to your website has more to do with marketing rather than Search Engine Optimization. Both are necessary, but driving traffic to your site has more impact on building long-term relationships.

April 20, 2009

SEO

Search Engine Optimization is what makes the difference between those who have a great website and no one knows and having all the right people find your site because your site has been optimized with the right keywords to match your topic.

Personal Google Results

You might not realize the benefits of having great results on Google, but it has come to my benefit multiple times. One year ago if you Google my name without quotes the results was 90,000, which is not bad, but this month it is the highest it has ever been. It’s at 1.8 million.

Embedding Video
I’m so excited! I love technology! I just got my Flip Video and capturing short video clips is now going to be a snap. One of the easiest methods of raising your visibility on your blog and website is to add video regularly.

Facebook Joint Ventures

I know I talk about Social Media often, but I have had so much fun getting to know people from all over the world because of the resources we have available to us. When I released Create Your Own Reality in June I placed a sentence at the top of my Profile page requesting help with the launch of my book. Within a month I had so many offers of help that I could hardly keep up with them.

Twitter Following Etiquette

I was reminded by a Twitter expert that there is an unwritten rule of etiquette in social media, but especially on Twitter. It’s about building relationships, not selling your wares. In fact, you’ll get shunned if you try to start out by selling.

Increasing Your Rankings

Getting your website up into the top rankings is a large component in being able to have people find you. It works from behind the scenes and is a direct result of your work you do with submitting your site to search engines and the various back links and reciprocal links you can achieve.

Submitting Your Website

If you would like to get your website noticed, and who wouldn’t? That’s the name of the game here! Getting noticed! One of the things you want to do is submit your website to Yahoo, Google and Alexa. I don’t pay as much attention to the first to, but I track my results monthly on Alexa. They keep you informed as to the level of ratings of your site. If you get your site up to one million, you are in the top 1% of all websites in the world.

Your Favorite Icon

I was stumbling around the Internet and noticed that some websites had a logo that was specific to their business. You’ve seen the MS Explorer “e” with the gold ring around it and the MySpace three people silhouettes right?

Independent Publishing

I am a big fan of Independent Publishing and very excited that we have one of the very first Independent Publishers more than 20 years ago. He has seen more changes in the publishing business than anyone I've met. (Download Audio)

Articles That Support Your Book

Since you're an author, writing articles should be second nature for you. The more articles you get published the higher your stock as an author becomes. It goes without saying, your articles should relate to your book.

December 8, 2008
Book Reviews
About two months prior to releasing your book, you'll want to start submitting your book to ezines, websites, other authors, as well as posting your book on Amazon and Barnes and Noble on line. Get anyone who's read your book to leave their review. This will boost your credibility.

November 24, 2008
Book Signings
One of the best ways to gain a new audience is through book signings at bookstores. However, Barnes and Nobles always welcomes authors who are will to do a big more than just sign their books. When you talk to the Community Relations Manager mention that you will be happy to read sections of your book, that will provide a much larger draw to their store.

PR Techniques
Public Relations is how most authors gain visibility. There are magazines, radio and television opportunities for every type of author. It is what will make the difference between getting your book out there in a big way versus having to haul your own book around to all the books stores and signings.

Distribution Resources
How do you get your books into the brick and mortor stores like Banes and Noble when you've independently-published? Most people will tell you it's impossible, but I am one of those people who look for solutions with each challenge that arises.

October 20, 2008
Radio Interviews
You will want to start thinking about radio interviews the moment you decide to write your book. The reason is knowing when you are writing your book, you'll want to make note of the particularly insightful words of wisdom.

October 13, 2008
Social Networking
I have been talking about the phenomena of Social Networking for the past six months. You have no idea how great this is if you haven't started it!

October 6, 2008
Packing a Punch
One of the reasons I enjoy setting up the interviews, teleclasses and podcasts is the type of conversations I get into with the authors. I never know where it will lead!

September 8, 2008
Podcasts
You'll want to reach as many internet media processes as possible. Creating a Podcasts where you have audio contact will make you more accessible to your fans.
September 15, 2008
Blogs
Your Blog is a place where you can keep your fans updated on your progress, speaking dates and any news or medial coverage.

Teleseminars:
I conducted a Teleclass Course with the worksheet and have placed it on the website so you can listen to the detail of what it will take for you to create your own Teleclass series.

Continuing Education

I have listened to 6 teleseminars, watched 5 webcasts and read more than 500 pages about publishing, internet marketing, audio and video production and advertising concepts! Whew! There is more than enough information to plow through and I take on the responsibility to dig in and find the best of all resources for you.

August 11, 2008

After writing five books, well okay, four books and a children's book, which was the most fun by the way! Anyway, I made a conscious decision to find a way ot make my book stand out in the more than 100,000 books published each year.

July 28, 2008

Writing a book takes a great deal of discipline. That's a given! But the rewards are beyond imagination!
